We took our crazy rental car & drove 80 miles down highway 2 from San Juan to Isabella. About 10 mins into the drive I could swear that I have been here before… we were driving the slums of Mexico & Costa Rica (really)! Even though it is a US territory, it is a whole other world down here. The houses are teeny & in shambles, almost no one speaks English & the townspeople are dressed in tattered rags. It took us about 5 hrs to reach Isabella as there were stop lights every few miles. The city had windy streets that were extremely narrow and most were one-way. Their ocean-side properties were just as worn down as the rest- missing doors and walls & all the windows were barred. On the way back we took highway 22, which had about $2.75 in tolls, but it took us less than an hour to make it the 58 miles back. The two highways paralleled each other (separated by only a few miles), but the view was completely different. The 22 was all green, rolling hills (not lush green, but it had some serenity to it). After checking into the Golden Sands Villa in Dorado (23 miles west of the airport) we picked Josh up at 11 pm… it is always so great to see him J awww! I love, love, love this hotel! All of our hotels were 20% off through an Orbitz special, so this room was only $82 (plus $7 parking) The hotel grounds were absolutely beautiful – they had several pools, waterfalls, dolphin sculptures that spouted water, and indoor garden complete with bridges, more waterfalls and great food. The restaurant lobby had a live band…and the cutest thing – Belle (who absolutely loves to dance) heard the music while we were having dinner. She jumped out of her chair and began dancing circles around the other diners. I grabbed our salad to go, and chased her to the dance floor. She hopped right out there & gained quite the audience! She is such a little star – she jumped right up on stage, grabbed the mic and sang Twinkle Twinkle (for a standing ovation!).
